Must know websites for your Destination Wedding

So you recently got engaged and you have no clue where to start....Since I was a destination bride myself there was a tonne of websites that we used to help us plan along the way, they saved us and our guests money, our wedding day looked perfect and of course was perfect + they saved us hours of work.
Websites from Wedding dresses to linen decor to cheap group flights we have some handy tips which you will hopefully benefit also.

1. Wedding Dresses - www.ebridalsuperstore.com (this website is the real deal, the dresses are the original designers + they turn up on your door step perfectly made to order)
 2. Wedding Linens, such as chair bows, table overlays etc (this can save you a lot of money as at most resorts the base color is white and if you choose to upgrade to a color of your choice they can charge you quite a high amount where as this website you can order for wholesale prices)
3. Wedding Parasols and Lanterns - Parasols are a great item to have for your wedding day, either for your bridesmaids to walk up the aisle with or just a great prop for photos. Lanterns are becoming very popular especially for a beach wedding they are wonderful for accent lighting and just a great overall look for the reception.

4. Silk Flowers - A great alternative to real flower arrangements and then you know exactly what you are getting, a lot of the time people do not even realize they are silk!
http://www.save-on-crafts.com/newsilflowse.html

5. Grooms Wedding Rings - Buying online is typically always cheaper than retail so if he knows his finger size then check out ring stores online, there is usually so many more to choose from + he won't feel like he is getting a ring the same as everyone else.
http://www.titaniumstyle.com/jewelry/5-612.html or http://www.tungstenworld.com/Black-Tungsten-Rings/
6. Group Travel Agent - You need to work with a Travel Agency which specializes in destination weddings. Not only are they experts at what they do but they will also help you and your group save money and make the planning a lot more stressfree.
www.posetravel.com

I hope these websites help you along your dream wedding day planning process. Don't be afraid to ask people for advice either especially if they have experienced their own destination wedding.

How to get the best deal on an all inclusive package

I came across this blog post from a group I am following and I found it a very interesting read especially if you are looking at booking All Inclusive Packages and "thinking" you are getting an amazing deal when you see it on the internet when in fact.....

When it comes to all inclusive vacations, this is the question most people want the answer to: 'When should I book to get the best deal?'To clarify, 'all inclusive' in this case refers to a package with flight, hotel, food, and drinks and 99% of the time it's to Cuba, Mexico, or the Dominican, AKA the Big 3 of all inclusive traveling. Some people like to throw around the term 'all inclusive' when referring to a flight and hotel (only) package to Vegas or Hawaii or other destinations. To most people though (at least in Canada), the term all inclusive involves food and drinks.

I think it's important to understand exactly what your options are when looking for an all inclusive package. It may seem like there's an overwhelming variety of places to search and scour, but in reality there's really only 2 worlds of prices available to us Canadians.

World #1 - The Canadian Tour Operators
(ie: Sunwing, Transat Holidays, Nolitours, WestjetVacations, etc)
If you've ever searched for an all inclusive vacation on a Canadian based site like RedTag, SellOffVacations, ITravel2000, Escapes, FlightCentre, or FlightNetwork you were searching for prices from the Canadian tour operators. To save my fingers from some typing, I'm going to refer to them as the CTO's from this point on.
I'll give you a hint, if you've ever tried to price compare the CTO's all inclusive package prices between various sites, you're essentially wasting your time. They'll always be the same price.
However, the CTO's generally have very competitive prices. And for the most part (but not always) their flights are decent, either with minimal stopovers, or direct, because they make use of all the charter flights out there.
So, when do the CTO's offer the best price? As is always the case in the world of travel prices, there's never a perfect answer for all situations. There are a few patterns that stand out to me though.
The first is that prices generally don't budge a whole lot, until you get close to about 4-5 weeks before departure. That's when the CTO's will occasionally start to get nervous about not having enough seats filled. There's no guarantee that prices will drop, there's never a guarantee of anything when it comes to markets, but I have noticed if they *are* going to start to drop, it will be around this point. It's at about this point in time that you'll usually see the lowest overall average price, across the largest variety of packages.
Here's a chart showing the median price of an all inclusive package from Calgary, to a 4* resort in the Mayan Riviera, as of the writing of this article.

We can see that right now, the 3rd week of March has the lowest median price which is about 4-5 weeks from now.
You can also see there's a large spike in the price around the last week of March. It's no coincidence that March 25th is the last day of school for Calgary, before their midwinter break. Plenty of people will be taking their families on holidays, which means increased demand, which means higher prices.
Interestingly enough though, Easter is quite late this year, and doesn't seem to be subject to higher prices than usual.
That gives us a look at prices out West, but how about out East? Here's a look at Toronto:

Again we can see that about 5 weeks ahead offers the cheapest price, although it doesn't be appear to be significantly cheaper than 2 weeks ahead at the moment.
What is noticeable however, is a large spike around the 2nd week of March. Just like with Calgary, it's no coincidence that this is when Ontario schools let out for midwinter break. These are just two example cities, the situation will be similar from all cities.
If you're ever looking to go on an all inclusive vacation, just ask yourself, are there a lot of other people with holidays at this time? If the answer is yes, expect prices to be higher, and the chance of an unusually good price to be quite low.
When it comes to the *really* insane prices, those are usually to be found with less than a week to go. The problem is though, it's usually to just a few select resorts, while the specific resort you may have been hoping for stands a good chance of having a higher price than was available previously. That's a classic example of flexibility vs price in the world of travel.
I'm sure there's plenty of people out there that wait for a 'last minute' deal to a specific resort, only to be disappointed. To lower their odds even further, most people also narrow it down to a specific date range. The chances of a truly great deal happening on the exact dates you want, to the exact resort you want are pretty remote.
There are also overall price trends throughout the year. Christmas of course, is just ridiculously expensive, with the off-the-charts level of demand. I've found that the average Christmas all inclusive package is usually at least 1.6X a normal, decent price. Basically, anything that involves 'over' Christmas is going to be the worst of the pricing, but anything between Boxing Day and January 7th or so is going to be nearly as bad. The chance of a great deal during the holidays drops to nearly zero, no matter *when* you buy, although there were a *few* decent deals in 2010, and I do mean few.
Anoter bad time of the year to hope for a good deal is around the third week of February. Spring break, Reading week, Family Day, President's Day, and Christmas credit card bills being paid off all combine in a perfect storm to make sure there are impossibly few good deals to be found anywhere warm.
The shoulder seasons usually have some amazing deals, such as November up to mid December. Then the prices get ridiculous for Christmas, then they come back down to earth around second week of January, but still higher than the shoulder season, as winter sets in across Canada and people start looking to get away.
During winter, there are still insane deals to be had for sure, but less frequently than in the shoulder season. Then comes April, and you're into the opposite shoulder season. There are still charter flights flying to warm destinations, but they're starting to wind down towards the end of April.
As you get into late spring and summer, people might think, it's warm here, so there's probably always some amazing deals down south. While demand might be lower due to the warmer weather here, don't forget that less charter flights also means less supply, which is the other half of the supply/demand function that determines prices in the market. And there's also a lot of people that take holidays during the summer. During the summer, you also stand a much better chance of having your vacation ruined by a hurricane down south, especially as you move into August/September.
Then as you get into late fall (end of November is approximately the end of hurricane season down south), and the charters ramp up the number of flights again and the cycle starts over.

World #2 - Everything Else
(ie: packages from Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz, Bookit)
I know that sounds intimidating, 'everything else'. By everything else, I mean sites that aren't offering packages from the Canadian Tour Operator's mentioned above. This includes sites like Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz, Bookit, etc, basically any of the big (usually American owned) travel sites out there.
It sounds like an overwhelming task, with you wasting your precious time examining them all. I can tell you that 99.9% of the time though, you'll find their prices to be pretty much identical to each other. They're basically just taking fares from the major airlines (which are the same everywhere) and mashing them together with whatever the latest hotel prices are (which are virtually always the same everywhere).
In terms of 'all inclusive' packages, as in the ones involving food and drinks, you basically just need to search for a 'flight + hotel' package and look for the ones that contain the word 'all inclusive' in the title of the hotel. That way, you're comparing apples to apples with the CTO's above.
If you search for a flight + hotel package and it doesn't have 'all inclusive' in the title of the hotel, well, you're probably just getting the flight and the hotel. On some of them though, once you select the flight + hotel package, it will give you the option of making it an 'all inclusive' (ie: food and drinks) for more money.
One problem with World #2 is that these flight and hotel packages will be initially mashed together with the cheapest flight option, which can sometimes be a completely moronic flight, like a 20 hour flight with 2 or 3 stopovers. You just have to watch out for that, and you can usually pick another flight, but the price will be higher of course. With the CTO's, as I mentioned earlier, most of them are charter flights and are usually decent flights (but not always!).
About the only other thing often missing from World #2, that's usually always included from the CTO's, are the 'transfers', which just means a way of getting from the airport to the hotel. Often you can just figure out a cheap way to get to the hotel yourself (bus, taxi, etc) so it's not really an issue, but it's just something to consider when comparing the two worlds fairly.
So, when's the best time to buy from World #2 ? A large part of it generally depends on what the flight prices are. Unlike with the CTO's, you are *rarely* going to see a last minute deal from World #2. Why? Because last minute flight prices on the major carriers are usually very expensive (unlike the charter flights that the CTO's use).
The world of flight prices could cover a whole separate blog post, but generally prices are at their most decent about 2 months ahead (this is a very general rule of thumb though). In World #2, you also have to hope that some all inclusive hotels have decided to offer a decent discount on their prices, in order for both the flight + hotel price to be a good deal. You kind of need two stars in this world to align, the first being an unusually good flight price to a warm destination from your city, and an unusually good hotel deal at the same time.
A lot of the same general rules of thumb in terms of seasons apply here of course. Christmas packages will always be expensive in World #2 as well, because flight prices will always be expensive around Christmas. And any time a large number of people are taking their holidays at the same time as you, it's rare to see great prices.

Bottom Line:
- It never hurts to check both worlds, just be sure you're comparing apples to apples, in terms of what you're getting.
- I find that the CTO's generally do have the most competitive prices, but that's certainly not *always* the case.
- 4-5 weeks ahead is usually a good time for decent overall prices from the CTO's, just don't expect anything decent over Christmas or around the third week of February.
- Watch for the crazy sell-offs from the CTO's with under a week to go, but be open to anything, anywhere.
- Keep in mind these are just general trends, there's never a guarantee of anything when it comes to the world of travel prices.

**Always remember a trusted Travel Agent will be still be able to find you the best price available with the best flight journey to take as I am sure to most of you time is an extremely valuable part of your life.

Destination Wedding Etiquette

A little etiquette lesson if you are planning on having a Destination Wedding....

Firstly, the couple out of respect for their guests must give at least three months notice in advance to the guests, so there is enough time for the guests to prepare for the destination wedding. Also many employers like to receive vacation requests at least two months in advance.

The couple must make it easy for the guests to get to their destination wedding. The couple will organize guests flight, accommodation and transportation requirements, with group rates and discounts through a Specialized Destination Wedding Travel Agency.

Guests are expected to pay for their own flights, accommodation and transportation. The save the date card indicates for the guests to pay their own flights, accommodation and transportation. In the card, it should also specify the wedding location (you can always just put the City if you have not chosen the resort).

The general rule is to invite only the guests for bridal showers who are invited to the wedding and reception. As you know, a destination wedding is a smaller wedding with approx five to fifty guests rather than the one to two hundred guests of a traditional local wedding.

The Bride and Groom may also like to set up a late wedding reception after their return from their destination wedding/honeymoon. This is for the guests and family members who were unable to attend the destination wedding, it is common for the Bride and Groom to be in their wedding attire for this event.

Always greet the guests who are attending the wedding, either at the airport, or organize a meet up prior to the wedding day such as a dinner at the resort or a cocktail party.

A suggestion is to write an optional itinerary for the guests, so the guests can make plans to enjoy the extra time at the destination if they choose to, after all the guests are on their vacation.

Do not opt for a gift registry as your guests attending should not feel obligated to spend more money on your event as they have already paid for this vacation + the last thing you want to do is carry your gifts home on the plane. A lot of Destination Bride and Grooms receive monetary gifts instead which can be a great incentive to be donated towards your wedding or honeymoon.

When you return from your Destination Wedding always send out Thank you cards to everyone who attended + the people who did not attend but were kind enough to provide you with a wedding gift.

Invite your friends and family over for a dinner party a few months after your return and reminisce over what a fantastic vacation you all had, take this opportunity for you to show everyone your Wedding Video and photos from your trip.

Exercising and not losing any weight for your big day?

5 Diet Mistakes That Prevent Workout Results

Woman exercising

By Cynthia Sass, MPH, RD

I’ve been the sports nutritionist for three professional teams and numerous athletes in my private practice, and whether you head to a 9-5 job each day and work out when you can, or you earn a living exercising, the right nutrition plan is the real key to results. Here are five mistakes that may interfere with getting the most out of your training time:
Drinking a Protein Shake Before a Workout
Protein is digested much slower than carbs, so too much pre-workout can give you stomach cramps and prevent the carbs you need for fuel from getting absorbed and becoming available to your working muscles.
The Fix: Reach for a smaller quantity of protein, along with slow burning carbs pre-workout, and choose higher protein shakes, snacks or meals afterwards.
Exercising on an Empty Stomach
It's physiologically impossible to burn pure body fat — during aerobic exercise you burn a combo of carbs and fat. When carbs aren't readily available, your body is forced to break down its own muscle mass and convert it into blood sugar. That means by skipping a meal, you may end up eating away at your own muscle instead of building it!
The Fix: If you don’t like the feeling of food in your stomach when you exercise stick with a liquid, like a small smoothie made with unsweetened frozen fruit and organic skim or soy milk.
Overusing Energy Bars
Overusing them can cause you to "eat back" the calories you burned exercising, preventing you from seeing results. A lot of my non pro athlete clients grab a bar post workout and eat a meal a few hours later, which may be overload when you consider that many bars are the equivalent of a turkey sandwich — and most people wouldn't eat a turkey sandwich, then sit down to chicken stir fry a few hours later.
The Fix: If you’re going to eat within an hour of the end of your workout, skip the bar, or go for it and pare down the portions in your next meal.
Not Eating Enough “Good” Fat
Every cell in the human body is partially made out of fat, including muscle, so "good" fat is needed to heal and repair post workout — without it you can stay sore and fail to see an improvement in strength and muscle tone.
The Fix: Include small portions of foods like extra virgin olive oil, avocado and almonds at every meal, and be sure to include a daily source of omega 3 fatty acids
Buying Into the Afterburn Myth
While it's true that you will torch more calories in the hours after a workout, for most women it amounts to just an additional 50 calories burned, not enough to sanction a splurge (note: a medium original Pinkberry = 230 calories).
The Fix: My general rule of thumb: the 50/50 principle — if you’re trying to trim down you can afford to add about half the calories you burn to your usual intake, preferably about 50 percent before to help fuel the activity, and half after, for recovery. For example, an hour on the elliptical burns about 500 calories (for 150 pound person), which means you can safely “spend” an extra 125 calories both before and after hitting the gym — that’s the amount in about one slice of whole grain bread spread with one tablespoon natural peanut butter before, and a half cup each nonfat Greek yogurt and sliced strawberries topped with a tablespoon of sliced almonds after.

Planning a Destination Wedding?

I have decided to let all of you future brides and grooms in on some key points when planning a destination wedding to make your day run even more smoother.

1. Choose a Travel agent who SPECIALIZES IN DESTINATION WEDDINGS! www.posetravel.com

2. Now that you are engaged send out an email ASAP to all of your invited guests letting them know;

a. that you are engaged and b. that you are having a destination wedding and they are invited. In this email you should mention;

* What city you are thinking about having the wedding i.e. Mayan Riviera, Costa Rica, Jamaica etc (if you don't know list them all!)

*Approx time frame when you want to have the wedding i.e. "We are hoping to have our destination wedding/your vacation mid - end of November 2012".

*Approx price range they should be expecting to pay (always go a little higher than what you expect to pay so that you look like a hero if it does come in lower and it gives more room to be flexible when choosing your resort. As a rough guideline for prices e.g. Mayan Riviera 5 star All Inclusive wedding for 7 nights accommodation, return flights and round trip airport transfers in Mexico, typically most people try to budget for their guests paying $1600 per person including taxes.

* Explain to them how a group booking works; Most suppliers i.e. Westjet groups, US Vacations offer a "group" air and land booking (which is only available to a Travel Agent) Thus meaning return flights, accommodation and round trip transfers when a minimum of 10 rooms are booked at the same resort. The benefit of a group booking is that is typically around $100 per person cheaper than what you see online + the price is guaranteed for the whole group not just a seat sale that you will come across online + you pay an initial non-refundable deposit per person of approx $250 and this deposit is taken off your final payment + you do not need to pay the final balance until approx 60 days prior to departure. This way your attending guests have some time to start saving.

3. Set up an online free wedding website, there are many to choose from such as www.mywedding.com or www.ewedding.com let your guests know the link via email. You can set up an RSVP link on this website so that guests can RSVP directly to the site, you can update your guests with info, let them know if you are having a gift registry etc.

4. Speak with your destiantion wedding specialist travel agent about resort options (they are experts and know prices very well as they are used to this). Once you have narrowed your options to about 3 different resorts your Travel agent will now send away a request to their preferred suppliers and wait approx 3 -5 business days to hear back with a group price.

5. Depending on whether your Travel agent is a destination wedding specialist or not he/she or you will contact the wedding team at the chosen resorts and make sure there is a day available to be married, when the resorts wedding team confirms which date you/travel agent will temporarily book your wedding. (Pose Travel offers this service to all clients)

6.. Group prices have been received by your Travel agent and you decide to choose the Now Sapphire, Riviera Cancun as the price came in under what you expected, now you will send your guest list to your Travel agent who will then prepare an info sheet with all of the prices, dates, info on the resort, you name it! and email it off to your guests. You will have 30 days from the time the Travel agent receives the quote until initial $256 per person deposit is due. When a guest decides to commit to the trip they will contact the dedicated Travel agent and he/she will take the information required for the deposit.

7.You or your Destination wedding specialist (Pose Travel www.posetravel.com- Destination wedding specialists) will conact the resorts and make a final booking for your wedding day.

8. Once all of the guests have replied and the group quote has expired (30 days have passed) the Travel agent will send all the details to the supplier who will make the reservation, your credit cards will then be charged.

9. From this point up until the final payment is due you will be working either on your own or with your Travel agent/destination wedding specialist on your wedding planning (Pose Travel offer this service for $500 + hst).

10. Next stage the final payments are due along with Passport information - your travel agent will advise everyone 2-3 weeks prior and if anyone needs to update their payment method or let the Travel Agent know their passport details, date of birth etc.

11. Departure day - Just like a regular flight however this one will be even more exciting as you will have family and friends on the same flight and the bride will be treated like a princess as she wonders around the airport with a HUGE white bag (her wedding dress)

12. A couple of days/one day prior to your wedding day you will meet with the wedding team at your resort to go over all the details and also to do a walk through with everyone who is in the wedding party.

13. Your wedding day! enjoy!
*Note: A destination wedding can be legal or symbolic - You have a choice to be legally married with a Marriage celebrant in your home town prior to departing (I would suggest approx 60 days prior to departing to allow for the printing and sending of your marriage license) or if you choose to have a legal wedding during your destination wedding than there are some different processes i.e. in Mexico you have to arrive a minimum of 3-5 days prior to the wedding for both of you to get blood work done (there is a cost involved in this), the marriage license will be mailed to you once you return (allow at least 90 days) The document will be in Spanish so you will need to pay to have it translated, you will also have to pay a little more for the ceremony itself + processing fees.

Valentines Day Proposals

Did you know.....? That 10% of ALL Engaged/Married Americans were officially engaged on a Valentines Day? HUH!

With that in mind Valentines Day is only one week away! There are so many nervous males out there at the moment deciding which ring shold I buy? how do I ask her father? More importantly how am I going to ask her to marry me! oh the list goes on.....!

We have come up with a few Marriage Proposals for this upcoming Valentines Day that will be sure to make your Fiance say YES!

1. Make her a photo album.....With each photo being a memory of your relationship i.e. a picture of the venue from your first date, a picture from your first house you lived in, a picture of your favorite restaurant etc and then when she gets to last couple pictures take a picture of either a. the jewellery store you are buying the ring from or b. a picture of the street name you are going to buy the ring from, then have picture of you in the jewellery store (or  of the ring if you already have it) and then the last picture is the MOST IMPORTANT include a picture saying "Will You Marry Me?"

2. Take her to a sports game....and prior to the game arrange with the source to display "will you marry me" on the score board!

3. Take her out to a romantic restaurant.... (she will just assume its going to happen here) don't propose at the restaurant until, on your way home stop for an ice-cream or coffee at DQ, Starbucks etc (a little less romantic) when the server hands your ice-cream/coffee have your napkin pre-written in marker "Will You Marry Me?" (Make sure you pre arrange this with the Ice cream/coffee shop)

4. Write on the bathroom mirror.... in lipstick "Will You Marry Me?" so when she wakes up in the morning it is there waiting for her.

5. Dog lover?.... you can get a dog tag made and printed for a very low cost these days, have one printed "Will you Marry Me?" and take her dog to the groomers that day so when she picks the dog up see if she notices what is written on her dogs new tag.

6. A girl will always want a fresh manicure when she is newly engaged...., so for Valentines book her in for a romantic dinner and also treat her beforehand to a manicure, once she at the final stages of her manicure and her nails are drying have the nail technician pass over the envelope (the one you will tell her is for the payment of the nails) and inside will be the ring, next you can arrive to take her to dinner WITH freshly manicured nails and hands and a RING!
